Axial Malformations

Definition:
Rotation and/or flexion in the fetlock joint or in the carpal joint

Symptoms:
Foals suffering from this problem show a toed-in or toed-out position.

Toed-in: The legs show a flexion in the axis towards the outside (called bowleggedness or varus deformity).

Toed-out: The legs show a flexion in the axis towards the inside (called knock-kneedness or valgus deformity).

Treatment:
The DALRIC Extension Shoe is equipped with an enlarged sole platform that is positioned on the opposite side of the direction of the toeing or the rotation. This means that in the case of a toed-out position with outer rotation, the extension must be fitted on the inside, and vice versa. This counter balance aligns the hoof with each propulsion towards the right position, thus correcting the joints.
